The Wooden Sky to me is like Fleet Foxes without the need of reverbing themselves to death. They have those catchy folk melodies that just keep your ears happy. Now they are back with a new EP called City of Light which you can stream on Exclaim!. There’s going to be 400 copies on limited edition cassette that will be circling around their shows. Damn it, I hope I get my hands on one of them.

Here’s another talented group from Toronto and a brilliant part of Record Store Day 2011 at Sonic Boom. The record store atmosphere worked perfectly for their alternative folk sound. There were a few bands that sounded terribly there (or maybe they were just terrible) but The Wooden Sky delivered. Check out Something Hiding in the Night For Us that comes off their 2009 release If I Don’t Come Home You’ll Know I’m Gone. That’s some serious title.
