Halifax’s Steve Gates released his debut full length album A Bee In Her Mouth in February. It was produced by John Critchley who’s worked with such acts like Dan Mangan and Elliott Brood, so you know it’s going to feel intimate. The album also features other Halifax artists like Jenn Grant and Rose Cousins. Check out the title track Proud Convey It. If you’re in Toronto, he’ll be playing a show May 2nd at The Supermarket.

This is something really down right country. Hey his EP is even called Hello Jesus. That doesn’t make his music any less heartfelt. I love this duet with Catherine MacLellan that is a tribute to the women of Highway 16 in British Columbia.
