“Standing on the Corner” by the noise folk duo Woodworker features some distorted vocals, meaty guitars and feisty keyboards. It ain’t exactly Peter, Paul and Mary.

Still trying to catch up this week — so much music coming down. Here’s a rootsy, country folk album from Ontario’s Dinner Belles. Sounds very traditional at first, but they have their own new millennium indie lens on the whole thing.

[listen] Harrison – Back Home

Chiptune synths, whistling, birds singing? It all sounds a bit too goofy. But wait, once things on Harrison’s “Back Home” get rolling it settles into an intriguing groove. Yeah, I like that.

[Listen] North Atlantic Explorer – Into the Blue Sea

Nautical themes abound with the new single from North Atlantic Explorer (who are, rather confusingly, from the West Coast). The breezy and melodic “Into the Blue Sea” is from the new album ‘My Father Was A Sailor’. Man, that salty air is stinging my eyes.

Maybe I’m giving Naysa a complex because they are no stranger to Weird Tuesday. Hey, we all know the best music appears on Weird Tuesday. Anyway, we’ll close off this edition with the goofy “Losing Weight”.

Ah, nothing says Weird Tuesday like an odd mixture of genres. Here’s “Get Me a Beer!” a pagan folk metal song from Protokult. Bound to keep you chuckling all the way down to the bottom of the keg.

marie davidson

“Abduction” is a disturbing track from the debut full-length album by singer/poet Marie Davidson. It is a work of electronic dark-synth and is completely performed and sung (actually, more spoken) by Davidson alone.

[Listen] Man Made Hill – Cryptic Decision

man made hill

I have no idea how to describe this one by Man Made Hill. It’s just bizarre alt pop with some Isley Bros-style falsetto harmony vocals. It’s off a 7″ vinyl shared with The Pink Noise.

[LISTEN] Expwy – EP

expwy

Expwy was Matt LeGroulx. The Montreal musician recorded several albums/EP’s in his apartment between 2010 and 2014, and they normally featured a particular genre of music. ‘EP’ was his electronic/bossa nova/samba offering. Notice I’m using the past tense. That’s because LeGroulx has retired the name Expwy and is now focusing on his new band Galaxius Mons.

(BTW, I always liked bossa nova and I’m predicting it’s gonna make an underground comeback.)

[Listen] Temple Volant – Bubble

temple volant

Experimental electronica from Montreal’s Temple Volant (aka Sami Blanco). This was apparently recorded after his last album ‘Daydream Drawings’ and is what Blanco refers to as a “late night work out”. Huh. Most people just work on their toe-nail clipping collection as a late night work out.

Moon Maker is an electropop artist originally from France, now in Montreal. Check out the hazy jam “Loving You” featuring The Entranced. The vibe for some reason reminds me of Bjork’s “Army of Me”.
