Royal Canoe’s music always sound quirky and Hold On to the Metal is no different. They make sound experimentation sound fun, appropriate and not overdone. They released an EP this week which is available on Bandcamp.

Looks like we’re in a rock mood today! Here’s a new one by garage-rockers Cousins. Jules comes from their upcoming album titled The Palm at the End of the Mind set to release March 20th, 2012. It’s definitely a great example of the obnoxious sides of the album. It’s strange because the guitars are at times manic but Aaron Mangle’s vocals are such a nice calm. Well, at at least until he starts to yell, “JULES JULES JULES”!.

Whitby’s Watershed Hour released their rock filled EP back in December but we’ve just stumbled on them through Bandcamp. It’s songs such as Ketchup that appeal the most to me. Just plain alternative rock with some raw sounding vocals that work much more than they should.

If you took The Weeknd and put a dubstep beat in it you’d get something that sounds like Elektrotank. From Toronto, Eytan Tobin merges trip-hop with dubstep and adds some other ambient features. He’s released a few things on Bandcamp, here is a track called Annex. I was never really into the Weeknd but somehow I kind of dig this.

From Toronto, Orchards has a very confusing biography on their Bandcamp that says they disappeared in 2025. However, it’s still 2012, so I assume they still exist. At least I hope so. I only just started to fall in love with their folk tunes filled with both plucked and strummed strings and trumpets. I would be quite saddened if they disappeared just as I was discovering them.
