Tanlines @ Wrongbar 04/17/2012
This may be a Canadian music blog, but I listen to a ton of international music too. Especially those frequently talked about by my American blogger friends. Tanline’s new album Mixed Emotions sits somewhere near the top of my favourite albums of 2012 so far. Continue Reading

Said the Whale w/ Boxer the Horse and Chains of Love at The Great Hall 04/13/2012

Thanks to Chromewaves I was able to go to the sold out Said the Whale show yesterday at the Great Hall. It was one of the concerts sponsored by 102.1 the Edge. It was all ages and the majority of the audience looked like they were still in high school. At least I know the younger generation of music lovers isn’t completely doomed to the likes of top 40 radio. Continue Reading

Cloud Nothings @ Lee's Palace 03/23/2012
The last band I saw that night was Cloud Nothings. Thank you all the blogs I follow for talking immensely about them because I actually really enjoyed myself. They play a combination of punk/noise rock but there’s something about the sound that captivates you in a sort of trance. If you took a look at the audience everybody was in their own sort of Cloud Nothings daze. I wasn’t even on anything (didn’t drink, don’t do drugs) and I felt the experience. The live set is something that their recorded albums can’t even compare to. My photos of the band aren’t very good because me and Photogmusic were trying not to get squished by the mosh pit behind us (we were front and centre). At one point we had to protect our cameras by keeping them on stage. It was so much fun though!

 Caveman @ Lee's Palace 03/23/2012
I was too lazy to move venues on Friday so I stayed the night. Next up was New York band Caveman. Finally, something with more energy and they definitely pumped up the crowd. I had heard of the band from my fellow American bloggers as they had some buzz during CMJ. The band had some funky patterned shirts which fit their quirkiness. The front man also played percussion to add intensity to the sound.

PS I Love You @ Lee's Palace 03/23/2012
PS I Love You was the band I really wanted to see that night. I was utterly disappointed though. Paul was sick that night and they took way too long to set up and tune between sets. For a band that is signed and has some traction, I expected to see more energy on stage but it wasn’t that exciting.

 Big Scary @ Lee's Palace 03/23/2012
I only made it to see 1 or 2 songs from Big Scary so I didn’t hear much of them. They’re a boy and girl duo from Australia. The girl must have been hidden by the drum set or something because I don’t remember seeing her during the songs I heard. I checked out their Bandcamp and they have a mixtape up for Free. They have some catchy alternative pop stuff up there. It’s kind of weird how even though it is from Australia, it’s kind of comparable to some of the indie pop we have here in Canada.
