Montreal’s AFILAO take on jazz classic “All the Things You Are” with a bold take that’s equal parts mind-bender and hip-shaker. Fusing latin jazz with Afro-Cuban, the group’s smooth horns and expressive piano contextualize the twisty, confounding rhythms, which add progressive time signatures to Timba (a mix of Afro-Cuban, salsa and funk). In the best way possible, AFILAO’s cover renders the original obsolete, as it sounds unlike any version before and likely afterwards.

AFILAO’s three-track EP is available now.
