Marching drums, dusty tremolo-laden guitars and thick, distorted bass all work to raise “The King” above your typical indie folk number. Montreal’s Matt Holubowski portrays a seriously disillusioned and confused individual, both sure and unsure of his right to the throne (“And I have been told I’m the only one/But I am, no I am not”). As a ruler who has no palace to call his own, Matt’s ‘king’ figure roams aimlessly in search of something or someone; possibly, the young girl seemingly held captive by an older man who might fancy himself the king of the castle/trailer home.

“The King” is off of Matt Holubowski’s forthcoming Solitudes, set to be released September 23, 2016.
