Lapsley, Morly @ Mod Club 5/3/2016 #CMW2016 Tiana Feng May 8, 2016 Concerts, Music, Pop 650 This year for Canadian Music Week, I made it my personal challenge to check out more things that weren’t from Toronto. I began the week with Yorkshire England’s Lapsley. I know they aren’t Canadian but Long Way Home is one of my favourite albums this year. She has a voice like Adele, with an indie vibe. On stage, she carried herself well for 19, cracking jokes on stage as the packed audience watched her with adoration. On songs like “Tell Me The Truth” she manipulated and looped her own voice to create the low timbred chorus you hear on record. This is one artist that with a huge career ahead of her. The opener was Morly, an artist that was once featured on Ryan Hemsworth’s Secret Songs. The Minneapolis duo delivered some dreamy electropop. There were a few technically difficulties with the pedal but it was hardly noticeable. Canadian Music Week was off to a terrific start!
