Lisa Leblanc @ The Dakota Tavern 9/22/2015 Tiana Feng October 4, 2015 Alternative, Canadian, Concerts, Country, Folk, Music 2145 French artists are a rare treat in Toronto and I recently got to see folk-trash rocker Lisa Leblanc play in the Dakota Tavern, a fitting venue for the genre. Leblanc proved that music knows no language borders as she performed songs both from her English EP Highways & Heartaches as well as her French self-titled. Thrown in were folk songs as well as a cover of Motorhead’s “Ace of Spades” done in her own style. It was the most bad-ass banjo playing I have ever seen as Leblanc often rocks out on hers just as much as she did her Rickenbacker guitar. She had the entire crowd stomping along to brilliantly written tracks like “You Look Like Trouble (But I Guess I Do Too)”. Who knew that “Gold Diggin’ Hoedown” would be the name of something I’d actually enjoy? Her set ended with a song done acoustically in the middle of the audience.
