Victoria’s Towers and Trees are set to release their full-length debut titled (quite fittingly) ‘THE WEST COAST’ (Oct. 2nd), and as a preview we are pleased to premiere the new video “Bad Heart”.

Front man Adrian Chalifour had the following to say: “Bad Heart is one of the edgier songs on the album and as we’ve shared the album around with friends and peers in the industry it seems to be the song that grabs the most people. We had been in touch with Dave Wallace (videographer, Innovate Imageworks) for the better part of a year trying to connect on a video project together. Dave is nearly synonymous with fresh, compelling video content here in Victoria and he’s been a fan of ours nearly since day one. The idea of teaming up on a simple live-off-the-floor video seemed like a great way to kick off what is hopefully the very beginning of a fruitful relationship.

We wanted to shoot in a setting that matched the tone of the song: brooding, haunted, abandoned. I recalled doing concrete restoration work in a really cool space about 4 years ago. it was the sewing room at a local design school located in one of the oldest buildings in the city; a large, dusty brick room full of antique sewing machines and mannequins in various states of dismemberment. It was perfect! The school (Pacific Design Academy) was still operating there and thrilled to let us use the space.

I can’t remember exactly how or when the blindfolds came in but it was floated during the group brainstorm about what we could do to add to the eeriness and give the video a unique touch (does the internet really need just another live-off-the-floor video?). For two weeks, we practiced with grocery bags over our heads to get used to playing our parts without vision (it’s actually really tricky!). We decided to each remove our blindfolds partway through to add more visual dynamic and give us the freedom to really rock out (I didn’t want to accidentally smack my face on the microphone!)”
