by Tiana Feng Lydia Ainsworth brought her latest album “Right from Real” to the Drake on Friday. Opening the night was Toronto’s Digits. Alt Altman’s synth-filled electropop got the crowd dancing more than the headliner. — Right From Real is one of my favourite albums of the year. However, I thought that there was something slightly weird about Lydia Ainsworth’s live set. I think I wished more of the vocal effects were looped live as her contemporaries Mozart’s Sister, Grimes etc. It was a little bit strange to have Lydia on keyboard while occasionally pre-recorded vocals played through on a track. Despite this, she and her band was still enthralling to watch. Joining her on stage was an enthusiastic drummer and a string section of violin and cello. Ainsworth delivered her dreamy gentle vocals which left the audience of family and fans smiling. There’s a few kinks to work out but there’s no doubt she will get better with every performance.
