Vancouver duo of Ari Shine and Adrienne Pierce are The Royal Oui and in their debut self-titled they present us with delicate and effortless seeming duets.

From the first “Sirensong” to “Montauk” the songs are perfectly balanced, in such a way that you wouldn’t even know that this thing was self-produced. There’s nothing particularly unique about the music but it is so pleasant to the ears.

If you listen in order it stories falling in love “Sirensong” and “When You Lose Your Mind”. The relationship gets a bit complicated in “Don’t You Think That I” and in “Montauk” the couple splits. Throughout the album, the couple are the star. Their voices are never overshadowed by the arrangements that only serve to compliment them. What makes this work is that Pierce and Shine are a couple in real life and they let us into intimate moments and come off incredibly sincere.
