Label: Nettwerk Music Group

From the sounds of Prayer of the Woods, Great Lake Swimmers frontman must hide in a cabin in the woods and write music when he’s not with the band. Though, it’s not a long vacation because Great Lake Swimmers are rumored to have something coming out in 2014.

How he writes so fast, who knows and who cares. Dekker can sing the bible and get people to fall for its words. The title of his solo release is close enough. “Prayer for the Woods” is inspired by a hand-carved sign on Ontario’s Bruce Trail. “Send me your wings now, it’s almost morning” he sings in “Hearing Voices”. Left in are the gentle squeaks of the guitar changing chords. There’s an intimacy in the fact that the album is only acoustic guitar and the occasional fiddle and keyboard.

The album is an ode to nature and that we should take good care of it. It’s the perfect soundtrack to the pattering of rain on the windowsill, as you look out wishing you could go explore it.
