The crowd gathered around a stage situated in the middle of the Great Hall. Audience members brought blankets and mats and lay down staring at the ceiling. Instead of a full band, it was just Maylee Todd in the middle. Choir singers stood on both sides of the balcony.

The evening was an intimate affair. Maylee Todd played harp and LED Tenori-on arrangements of the songs on Escapology. On the rooftops Steven McCarthy and Tess Girard rendered live images of Todd mixed with footage of stars, butterflies and galaxies. Balloons lit up in sync with programmed electronics. Joe at Mechanical Forest Sound has some fantastic recordings of the night.

While Maylee Todd’s Japanese attire and glittery hair was definitely the centre of attention, it was the inclusion of all the elements – the visuals, her music, the stage, the audience lying on the ground- that made for a one-of-a-kind Summerworks experience.
