Light Fires is the dance-pop project of Gentleman Reg’s alter-ego, “Regina the Gentlelady”, and James Bunton of Ohbijou.

My first thoughts of FACE were that it is quite different from Reg’s and Bunton’s usual projects but at the same time I could totally picture Reg doing something like this. He’s also quite confident in his “Regina” persona in both mind and spirit. The lyrics to “I Like to Work” include, “I like to work, I like to fuck…… forget the rules, I’ll lend you my tools, get down upon your knees and I’ll show you what to do.” They’re definitely not safe lyrics but Reg struts them with great pleasure.

Maylee Todd, Maggie MacDonald and John Marshall provide additional vocals on “Let’s Get Divorced”. The hand-claps, woodblocks and of course synths make it one of the happiest songs I’ve ever heard about getting divorced. “Flow Step” and “Why My Heart?” has fun with a vocoder.  On “If You’re Bored” Reg sings that you should “make it up” and “demand a better life.”

This is an album for an adventurous night on town, for a girl, or someone who just wants to be one for the night.
