Opening up the night was rapper TFHOUSE. Their recorded stuff (available on Bandcamp) is alright, but I thought the live performance was a bit of a joke and kind of unprofessional. There was a turntablist spinning backing tracks which included ALL the rapper’s vocals. The rapper would rap sometimes, laughing, mocking at others or pointing out how awesome his vocals were in the track. I would have almost preferred it to be a DJ set (and you know how I feel about those).
Thankfully, Bravestation saved the night. The last time I saw them they were a 4-piece but last night they were a trio. It was mentioned that the other member was still an integral part of the group’s recordings. Even as a trio they still evoked their signature tribal pop energy with a hint of soul as IV drifts into a more R&B inspired direction.
