by Tiana Feng Last week, Canadian rockers Arkells played a sold-out benefit concert at the Mod Club. While I was unable to attend the concert, I got a sneak-peak at the initiative they were supporting the day before at Eva’s Phoenix Youth Center in Toronto. Along with the Arkells, we were taken on a tour of Eva’s Phoenix. They also performed a two song acoustic set and signed CDs for the youth. I enjoyed that they were more than just a shelter for at-risk and homeless youth. They provided education and prepared them for employment to survive in the outside world. The Arkells partnered with Virgin Mobile’s Re*Generation movement to raise money for this special initiative. They successfully donated an amazing $10,000 to the program via concert ticket sales of last weekend’s show. In addition, Virgin Mobile and Samsung have partnered together to donate $15 from every sale of their Re*Generation phone (Samsung Galaxy Ace II). For more on the Re*Generation project you can go here. Tune into Exclaim! in January for videos from the acoustic performance.
