I often dismiss music by how it’s described in the press release. Edmonton’s Calvin Love came in the form of post-punk, new wave, rockabilly with electronic beats. The words sounded like a recipe for disaster, but yet I was intrigued so I gave his first album New Radar a thorough listen through. While it does lean towards the weirder side of things, it’s exactly they described it. There is the belting darkness of post-punk ethos, rockabilly guitar licks, synthy electronic beats with an overall new wave sound. The entire thing is streaming over on Paste Magazine but you can grab Magic Hearts below.
