Kestrels are a hybrid of straight-up pop and unsophisticated soundscape-ery. They’re sloppy as all hell, but the best part of them is how little that matters. Kestrels is clearly making music they enjoy and they’re having a good time doing it. This comes across vividly on “There All the Time Without You.” More music should translate this way. It almost hurts when you hear a band that is trying too hard to impress you; Kestrels will get the job done without lifting a finger.
