I went to the songwriting workshop hosted by the people who do Canadian Music Fest. From there they demonstrated how a lot of the times the songs that make it somewhere are those that tell a story, or have memorable little details. I think Eddie Writer is an example of an effective writer. Super Late sounds so straightforward but its full of adorable little details such as walking his dog or grabbing his iPod. It’s also set to a straight pop tune that would be perfect for commercial radio.
