I loved this movie when it came out, it was just so adorable and emotional at the same time. The 3d element added a whole new world of fun as well since I think this was one of the first 3d movie experiences I had at a movie theatre. I remembered that the music was a big part in what made the movie effective and touching, but I never thought about it until last night’s Oscar win. It competed alongside other big works such as Avatar (soundtrack by James Horner, or the guy who did Titanic), Sherlock Holmes(Hans Zimmer who did the Dark Night and the Lion King),The Hurt Locker and Fantastic Mister Fox.
The music for Up was scored by Michael Giacchino, who if you didn’t know did the Jurassic Park films (The Lost World Video Game), Star Trek (2009) and lots of other movies. He also composed the music for the Medal of Honour and Call of Duty video games. Who knew a pretty big composer did Up! The track’s aren’t like other movie sound tracks (such as Avatar) where everything sounds exactly the same or similar. This soundtrack is full of all different emotions. There are happy and fun tracks as well as the slow and depressing ones. There is a characteristic theme that is present throughout, but it goes through different moods and stages like the characters in the movie. It is one of the easiest to get through soundtracks I have listened to in a long time.
Here are the end credits to the movie, isn’t it just a fun listen!
